About Couchbase Inc
Couchbase, Inc. built a cloud database platform for business applications. Couchbase Capella handled the deployment, management and operation of Couchbase Server across clouds, while Couchbase Server itself was a multi-service NoSQL database with SQL++, a SQL-compatible query language.
Couchbase Mobile was an embedded NoSQL database for mobile and edge devices that kept data available even offline, with a sync gateway to move data securely to the backend. The company sold through its own sales team and partners to government, retail, travel, financial services, software, gaming, media and industrial customers.
Originally named Membase, Inc., it became Couchbase in February 2011. It was incorporated in 2008 and based in San Jose, California, with offices in Austin, Texas and Bengaluru, India. Haveli took the company private in October 2025, paying $24.50 in cash for each BASE share; the last trade was on October 23, 2025 at $23.87.
