Block, Inc. (XYZ)

Block, Inc. is a financial technology company headquartered in Oakland, California. Founded in 2009 as Square by Jack Dorsey and Jim McKelvey, the company adopted the Block name in 2021, and its Class A common stock trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker XYZ.

Its Square business provides sellers of all sizes with payment processing hardware and software, point-of-sale systems, banking, payroll and business lending services. Cash App is a consumer financial platform that lets people send and receive money, receive paychecks, use a debit card, invest in stocks, buy and sell bitcoin, and access short-term borrowing.

Block also owns Afterpay, a buy now, pay later service integrated with both Square and Cash App, and the music streaming service TIDAL. Through additional initiatives such as Bitkey, a self-custody bitcoin wallet, and Proto, a bitcoin mining hardware effort, the company pursues projects focused on bitcoin and decentralized financial infrastructure.
