About Vimeo, Inc.
Vimeo, Inc. was a video software company headquartered in New York City. The Vimeo service was founded in 2004 by Jake Lodwick and Zach Klein, and it was acquired by the media and internet company IAC in 2006. Vimeo positioned itself as an ad-free alternative for creators and businesses who valued high-quality playback and control over how video was presented.
Over the years the product shifted from a consumer video-sharing site into a software-as-a-service offering for businesses. Its tools covered video hosting, creation and editing, collaboration and review, live streaming, webinars, over-the-top streaming and monetization, interactive and shoppable video, and AI-assisted video creation. Customers ranged from individual creators and small businesses to marketing teams, agencies, educational institutions, nonprofits and large enterprises.
IAC completed the separation of Vimeo as an independent publicly traded company in May 2021, and the shares began trading on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the symbol VMEO. The company made acquisitions in this period to add livestreaming, video creation and AI capabilities. Anjali Sud served as chief executive officer through 2023 and was succeeded by Philip Moyer.
After a surge of pandemic-era demand, growth slowed and the share price fell substantially from its post-spin levels. Vimeo's leadership disclosed that it was exploring strategic options, and Bending Spoons, an Italian developer of consumer and productivity apps that owns Evernote, WeTransfer and Meetup, emerged as a bidder.
On September 10, 2025, Vimeo announced a definitive agreement to be acquired by Bending Spoons for $7.85 per share in cash, a transaction valued at about $1.38 billion. The agreement followed a review of strategic alternatives by the board. The deal was subject to Vimeo stockholder approval and regulatory clearances, and Bending Spoons expected it to close in the fourth quarter of 2025.
The acquisition was completed in November 2025, and Vimeo became a privately held company owned by Bending Spoons. Vimeo's common stock was removed from trading on Nasdaq, and a Form 25 was filed with the SEC on November 24, 2025 to remove the shares from listing and registration. Holders of Vimeo common stock were entitled to $7.85 in cash per share. Bending Spoons later carried out workforce reductions at the company.
