About Sage Therapeutics Inc
Sage Therapeutics, Inc. was a biopharmaceutical company that developed and sold brain health medicines. Its marketed drug ZURZUVAE, a neuroactive steroid that boosts GABA receptor activity, treated postpartum depression in adults.
The pipeline included SAGE-324, a GABA receptor modulator for chronic oral use, including seizures in developmental and epileptic encephalopathies, and SAGE-319 for behavioral symptoms of neurodevelopmental disorders. SAGE-817 and SAGE-039 targeted acute and chronic brain disorders through the GABA and NMDA receptor systems, and the company also worked on an NMDA receptor negative modulator.
Known as Sterogen Biopharma, Inc. until September 2011, it was incorporated in 2010 and based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It became a subsidiary of Saphire, Inc. as of July 31, 2025. Its stock was delisted from the Nasdaq in July 2025, with a final trade on July 30, 2025 at $8.68.
