About Frontier Communications Parent, Inc.
Frontier Communications Parent, Inc. was a U.S. telecommunications provider focused on fiber-optic broadband and legacy copper services for residential and business customers across a network spanning around 25 states. The company was headquartered in Dallas, Texas, after previously being based in Norwalk, Connecticut. It traces its history to 1935 and was formerly Frontier Communications Corporation.
Frontier offered internet access, voice service, video and business services such as data networking. In its later years the company concentrated on building out fiber to the home, upgrading millions of locations, and moving customers from older copper connections to faster fiber service. Its customers included households as well as small, medium and large businesses.
The company grew through acquisitions of local telephone operations, including its purchase of Verizon's wireline operations in several states in 2016. It filed for Chapter 11 reorganization in April 2020 and emerged in April 2021 under a new parent, Frontier Communications Parent, Inc. The reorganized company began trading on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the symbol FYBR.
On September 5, 2024, Verizon Communications announced a definitive agreement to acquire Frontier for $38.50 per share in cash, a deal that Verizon described as valued at about $20 billion including debt. Frontier shareholders approved the transaction on November 13, 2024. The agreement included termination fees of $320 million payable by the seller and $590 million by the buyer in certain circumstances.
The transaction needed regulatory approvals at federal and state levels, which took more than a year to obtain. Verizon said it expected at least $500 million in annual cost synergies by the third year after closing, and it planned to refinance Frontier's existing debt.
Verizon announced that it completed the acquisition on January 20, 2026, after receiving all required regulatory approvals. Frontier became part of Verizon and its common stock was removed from Nasdaq, with a Form 25 filed that week. Because January 19, 2026 was a market holiday, the last regular trading day on Nasdaq was January 16.
The acquisition expanded Verizon's fiber footprint substantially, adding Frontier's fiber and broadband customers to Verizon's existing wireline and wireless operations. Frontier shareholders received cash, so they did not take on exposure to Verizon's stock, which continues to trade on the NYSE and Nasdaq under the symbol VZ. After the closing, Frontier's common stock was removed from Nasdaq and the company ceased to be an independent publicly traded business. Frontier's debt was to be refinanced by Verizon, and the combination was subject to approvals from the Federal Communications Commission and several state regulators.
