About Amedisys Inc
Amedisys, Inc. provided healthcare services in the United States through three segments: Home Health, Hospice and High Acuity Care. The Home Health segment sent skilled nurses, physical, speech and occupational therapists, social workers and aides into patients' homes to help them recover from surgery, illness or chronic disability and to avoid needless hospital readmissions.
The Hospice segment offered comfort and support for people facing a terminal illness such as cancer, heart disease, lung disease or Alzheimer's. High Acuity Care brought key parts of hospital, skilled nursing and palliative care into the home.
Known as Analytical Nursing Management Corp. until August 1995, the company was founded in 1982 and based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with another office in Nashville, Tennessee. UnitedHealth Group (UNH) acquired Amedisys on August 14, 2025 for $101.00 in cash per AMED share, and it became part of Optum, Inc.; the last trade was that day at $100.99.
