About Landcadia Holdings, Inc. Units

LCAHU was the ticker for the units of Landcadia Holdings, a special purpose acquisition company based in Houston. Each unit combined one share of Class A common stock with a fraction of a warrant, the standard structure for blank-check offerings of that era. The units could later be split so the shares and warrants traded on their own. Landcadia was sponsored by restaurant and casino owner Tilman Fertitta together with the investment bank Jefferies.

Landcadia raised about $250 million in its Nasdaq initial public offering in 2016, placing the proceeds in a trust account while it searched for an acquisition target. As is typical for SPACs, it had a limited time to complete a deal or return the cash to shareholders. In 2018 it agreed to buy Waitr, a Louisiana-based online restaurant ordering and food delivery platform focused on smaller markets in the southern United States.

The business combination closed on November 15, 2018, for total consideration of roughly $308 million, alongside $85 million of financing from Luxor Capital. The company was renamed Waitr Holdings and began trading on Nasdaq as WTRH on November 16, 2018, and the Landcadia units were retired. Waitr later struggled against larger delivery rivals, rebranded as ASAP, and its stock was eventually delisted, so there is no longer a listed successor.
