About Heritage Oaks Bank

Heritage Oaks Bank was a community bank based in Paso Robles, California, serving businesses and individuals on the Central Coast in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties. It offered commercial and real estate loans, small business and agricultural lending, deposit accounts, treasury management and other standard banking services through a network of branches in the region.

The bank opened in the 1980s and grew from a single office into one of the larger independent banks on California's Central Coast. It expanded partly by acquisition, including the 2014 purchase of Mission Community Bancorp of San Luis Obispo. Its holding structure was later simplified so that the bank itself was the listed company, and its common stock traded on NASDAQ under the symbol HEOP.

In 2016 Heritage Oaks agreed to merge with Pacific Premier Bancorp, an Irvine, California bank holding company that was expanding through a series of acquisitions in Southern and Central California. Pacific Premier saw the deal as a way to enter the Central Coast market and add a stable base of core deposits.

The merger took effect on April 1, 2017 and was announced on April 3, 2017. Each Heritage Oaks share was converted into 0.3471 of a share of Pacific Premier common stock, valuing the transaction at about $482 million. Heritage Oaks Bank was merged into Pacific Premier Bank, and on a pro forma basis the combined company had roughly $6 billion in total assets.

Pacific Premier continued as an independent listed company until Columbia Banking System completed its acquisition of Pacific Premier on August 31, 2025, with each Pacific Premier share converted into 0.9150 of a Columbia share. Former Heritage Oaks branches are now part of Columbia's banking network.
