Global X NASDAQ China Technology ETF (QQQC)

The Global X NASDAQ China Technology ETF was a passively managed fund that gave investors exposure to technology companies based in mainland China and Hong Kong. Its holdings spanned internet services, software, hardware, semiconductors and telecommunications, including many large Chinese technology companies listed in Hong Kong and the United States. Most of its weight was in a handful of large firms.

Global X launched the fund on December 8, 2009, originally as the Global X China Technology ETF tracking a Solactive index. In December 2011 it switched to the NASDAQ OMX China Technology Index and took the NASDAQ-branded name, trading on NASDAQ under the symbol QQQC. The symbol was chosen to echo NASDAQ's well-known QQQ fund. It paid distributions once a year.

The fund remained small, with roughly $13 million in assets in 2017, while larger rivals in the China internet and technology space drew most of the investor demand. Its last regular annual distribution was paid in January 2018. Trading volume was often light, and the fund was a small player compared with funds that covered Chinese internet stocks more broadly.

Global X later closed the fund and liquidated its assets, paying cash to remaining shareholders. Investors seeking similar exposure can use other China technology and internet ETFs that remain listed. After closing, the QQQC symbol no longer referred to an active fund, and other providers continued to offer listed exposure to Chinese technology companies.
