About Olaplex Holdings, Inc.

Olaplex Holdings, Inc. was a hair care company headquartered in Santa Barbara, California. The brand was established in 2014 and became known for bond-building treatments aimed at repairing hair damaged by chemical services such as bleaching and coloring. Its products were first sold to professional salons, and the company later widened distribution to retailers and consumers.

Its product range centered on numbered treatments and care products, including shampoo, conditioner, masks and styling products, sold under the Olaplex name. The company sold through three channels: professional salons, specialty retail, and direct-to-consumer e-commerce. In fiscal year 2025 it generated approximately 370 million euros in sales, according to Henkel, with a split between the United States and international markets.

In 2019, the private equity firm Advent International acquired a majority interest in the company. Olaplex completed its initial public offering in September 2021 and listed on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the symbol OLPX. The stock traded at a high level in its first months, but later declined as growth slowed.

The slowdown reflected several pressures. Salon professionals and consumers faced a more crowded market of bond-repair competitors, wholesale partners reduced inventory, and consumer spending in beauty softened. The company also dealt with litigation about product claims, and it changed its leadership, with Amanda Baldwin serving as chief executive officer in later years.

On March 26, 2026, Olaplex announced that it had agreed to be acquired by Henkel, the German consumer and industrial goods group, for $2.06 per share in cash. The price represented a premium of about 55 percent to the closing price on March 25, 2026 and about 45 percent to the 30-trading-day volume-weighted average price. The deal valued the equity at approximately $1.4 billion.

Henkel completed the acquisition on July 7, 2026, and announced that Olaplex shares had stopped trading on Nasdaq. A Form 25 was filed with the SEC to remove the shares from listing and registration. Henkel said the purchase would strengthen its North American position in hair care and its professional hair business.

Following the closing, Olaplex became part of Henkel's consumer brands operations. The company's public shareholders received cash for their shares, and the stock no longer trades on a U.S. exchange.
