About BYTE Acquisition Corp.
BYTE Acquisition Corp. was a special purpose acquisition company listed on Nasdaq, with its Class A shares trading as BYTS. It went public in 2021 with a focus on technology businesses, particularly software and tech companies with ties to Israel. Like other SPACs, it held its offering proceeds in trust while looking for a private company to take public.
The search took longer than planned, and shareholders approved charter extensions to give the company more time. Each extension let investors redeem their shares, and by late 2023 more than 94 percent of the trust had been withdrawn. In June 2023 BYTE agreed to combine with Airship AI, in a deal announced at about $303 million and valuing Airship AI at roughly $225 million before new money.
Airship AI, founded in 2006 and based in Redmond, Washington, provides AI-driven video, sensor and data management software for surveillance and public safety. Its customers include U.S. federal agencies in homeland security and defense as well as state and local government and commercial users.
BYTE shareholders approved the deal on December 19, 2023, and the combination closed on December 21. The company was renamed Airship AI Holdings, Inc., and its common stock and warrants began trading on Nasdaq as AISP and AISPW on December 22, 2023, replacing the BYTS listing.
