In addition to generating electricity, TVA manages the Tennessee River and its tributaries, provides flood control, and promotes economic development in the Tennessee Valley region. TVA is governed by a nine-member board of directors appointed by the President of the United States and confirmed by the Senate. Its headquarters are located in Knoxville, Tennessee.
