TVE - Tennessee Valley Authority

Tennessee Valley Authority logo Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is a corporate agency of the United States that provides electricity for business customers and local power companies serving 10 million people in parts of seven southeastern states. It is the largest public power company in the United States and is owned by the federal government.

TVA was created in 1933 as part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal to provide jobs and economic development in the Tennessee Valley region. Today, TVA generates electricity using a mix of coal, natural gas, nuclear, hydroelectric, and renewable energy sources.

In addition to generating electricity, TVA manages the Tennessee River and its tributaries, provides flood control, and promotes economic development in the Tennessee Valley region. It also operates three nuclear power plants and has an extensive environmental cleanup program to address legacy issues from past power generation activities.

TVA is governed by a nine-member board of directors appointed by the President of the United States and confirmed by the Senate. Its headquarters are located in Knoxville, Tennessee.
