Amana Equity Income ETF (AMEI)

The Amana Equity Income ETF (AMEI) is an actively managed exchange-traded fund advised by Saturna Capital, the Bellingham, Washington-based firm that manages the Amana family of funds. It invests in dividend-paying stocks in accordance with Islamic investment principles.

The fund seeks current income and long-term growth by holding companies with a record of paying dividends. Consistent with Islamic principles, it avoids businesses whose primary activities include interest-based lending, alcohol, gambling, pork products and similar areas, and it screens out companies with excessive debt or interest income. As a result, it does not hold conventional bank stocks or bonds paying interest.

The fund follows the same faith-based approach as the long-running Amana mutual funds. Its shares are listed on Nasdaq.
