The company was founded in 1994 by Steven Spielberg, David Geffen, and Jeffrey Katzenberg, and was headquartered in Glendale, California.

Dreamworks Animation quickly established itself as a major player in the animation industry, producing hit films such as "Shrek," "Kung Fu Panda," and "How to Train Your Dragon." The company also expanded into television production, with several successful shows including "The Penguins of Madagascar" and "Dragons: Riders of Berk."
