WILN - Wi

Wi logo Wi-LAN Inc. (WILN) was a Canadian intellectual property licensing company, which changed its name to Quarterhill Inc. (QTRH) in 2017. As of the name change, Quarterhill became the parent company of Wi-LAN and its subsidiaries, including the original Wi-LAN entity.

Wi-LAN was founded in 1992 and focused on acquiring, developing and licensing a broad range of intellectual property that could be applied to a wide variety of products, such as wireless communications, semiconductors, and consumer electronics. The company aimed to create a revenue stream by licensing its intellectual property to manufacturers, rather than developing its own products.

In 2016, Wi-LAN announced that it was rebranding itself as Quarterhill to reflect the company's broadened focus on Internet of Things (IoT) and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) technologies. The company has since acquired several technology companies, including Viziya Corporation, a leading software solutions provider for maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) assets, and International Road Dynamics (IRD), a provider of intelligent transportation systems and transportation analytics.

As of February 2023, Quarterhill Inc. (QTRH) is traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) and the NASDAQ.
