About VanEck China Growth Leaders ETF
The VanEck China Growth Leaders ETF invested in Chinese companies screened for growth characteristics. It tracked the MarketGrader China All-Cap Growth Leaders Index, which ranks companies on measures such as growth, value, profitability and cash flow. The index covered Chinese firms listed in mainland China, Hong Kong and the U.S. The fund traded on NYSE Arca under the symbol GLCN.
The fund launched in October 2010, during a period of strong investor interest in China's economic growth. It remained a niche product next to large China funds such as FXI and MCHI. Chinese equities went through long stretches of weak performance in later years, hurt by regulatory crackdowns and slowing growth. Assets in the fund stayed small.
On September 8, 2023 VanEck announced that its board had approved closing the fund. GLCN stopped accepting creation orders and traded for the last time on September 20, 2023. Shareholders who still held shares received a final liquidating distribution in cash at net asset value on or about September 27, 2023. No replacement fund was named.
