About Validea Market Legends ETF
The Validea Market Legends ETF tracked an index of U.S. and foreign stocks selected using quantitative screens modeled on the published strategies of well-known investors such as Warren Buffett, Benjamin Graham and David Dreman. Validea Capital Management, the firm behind the Validea investment research site, served as adviser, and the fund was part of the ETF Series Solutions trust.
The fund launched on Nasdaq on December 10, 2014 under the ticker VALX. It aimed for long-term capital appreciation with income as a secondary goal and usually held a diversified mix of mid-cap and large-cap value and blend stocks, rebalanced periodically according to the index rules.
The fund never attracted significant assets. In 2020 its board decided to close it, and trading was halted before the market opened on May 15, 2020, with the fund liquidated after the close that day. Shareholders received about $17.61 per share, plus small additional payments later. Validea continues to publish its guru-based stock screens through its research service.
