Levy
Acquisition Corp. was a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC)
that was formed for the purpose of acquiring or merging with one or
more businesses. The company was founded in 2015 and was headquartered
in New York City, New York.
Levy Acquisition Corp. had no
operating history or revenue-generating activities, as it was created
solely for the purpose of acquiring another company. In December 2015,
the company announced that it had entered into a definitive merger
agreement with Cirque du Soleil, a Montreal-based entertainment
company known for its circus-style productions.
Under the terms
of the merger agreement, Levy Acquisition Corp. would acquire Cirque
du Soleil for approximately $1.5 billion. The merger was completed in
July 2016, with Levy Acquisition Corp. changing its name to Cirque du
Soleil Entertainment Group and becoming a publicly traded company on
the Toronto Stock Exchange.
