GEM - GS Activebeta Emerging Markets Equity ETF

GS Activebeta Emerging Markets Equity ETF logo The GS Activebeta Emerging Markets Equity ETF (GEM) is an exchange-traded fund that seeks to provide investment results that correspond generally to the performance of the Goldman Sachs ActiveBeta® Emerging Markets Equity Index. The fund is managed by Goldman Sachs Asset Management and was launched on September 28, 2015.

The investment objective of the GEM ETF is to provide exposure to emerging market equity securities that exhibit certain characteristics, including value, momentum, quality, and low volatility. The fund seeks to achieve this objective by investing in equity securities of companies in emerging market countries. The index that the fund tracks is designed to provide exposure to emerging market equity securities that exhibit the characteristics of both passive and active investment strategies.

The GEM ETF holds a diversified portfolio of securities across emerging market countries and sectors. As of December 31, 2021, the top five countries in the fund were China, Taiwan, South Korea, India, and Brazil. The top five sectors in the fund were financials, information technology, consumer discretionary, communication services, and industrials. The fund has an expense ratio of 0.45% and is traded on the NYSE Arca exchange.

Investing in emerging market securities can carry higher risk compared to developed market securities due to potential political, economic, and currency risks. Additionally, the performance of the fund may be affected by fluctuations in the values of foreign currencies and changes in government policies and regulations.
