Features

  • Blocks websites of your choice in all browsers and programs
  • Blocks porn, gambling and other adult websites
  • Blocks Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X (Twitter) and any social network
  • Two layers: by website name and by internet address, using the Windows firewall platform
  • Blocks apply to all users and stay in place after a restart
  • Misspelled or non-existing websites are marked “Not found”
  • Add many websites at once; lists of up to 3000 websites; international domain names
  • Password-protected mode
  • Safe: the hosts file is backed up first, and Unblock All removes every block in one click

Blocked websites stay blocked for every user of the computer, after you close the program and after you restart Windows. You do not need to keep Website Block running. Protect it with a password so other users cannot change the list or unblock websites.

How to block a website on Windows

  1. Download and install the free 30-day trial of Website Block. It changes Windows security settings, so click Yes when Windows asks for permission.
  2. Add websites: click Add Site (Action > Add Website) and type one or more websites, one per line, for example facebook.com or https://www.youtube.com/. The whole website is blocked, not only one page.
  3. Block them: select the websites and choose Block > Block Selected Websites, or click Block All. The Block Status column shows the result for each website.
  4. Restart your browser: close all browser windows and open the browser again, then try the website.
  5. Set a password with Security > Software Access > Password Protect Access, so nobody else can open Website Block and unblock websites.

When you need to block websites

  • Protect children from adult and gambling websites. Give them a standard Windows account and keep the administrator password to yourself.
  • Stop distractions while you work or study: Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X (Twitter), games and news sites.
  • Office and school computers: the blocks apply to every user of the computer and stay in place after a restart. Website Block does not have to keep running.
  • Every browser at once: Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Firefox and other programs that connect to the internet, not just one browser.
  • Long block lists: open a text file with up to 3000 websites, one per line, and block them all in one step. Misspelled or non-existing websites are marked “Not found”.

A blocked website still opens? Close all browser windows and open the browser again. If “Use secure DNS” (Firefox: “DNS over HTTPS”) is turned on in the browser, it may skip the name block and only the address block remains; turn that setting off for reliable blocking. Frequently asked questions

How do I block a website in all browsers on Windows 11?

Add the website to Website Block and choose Block > Block Selected Websites. It is blocked by name and by internet address for the whole computer, so it does not open in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or any other browser. Close and reopen the browser after blocking.

How do I block a website without software, using the hosts file?

You can add a line such as 0.0.0.0 example.com to the file C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts, using an editor started as administrator. Website Block does this for you in its own marked section of the hosts file, also blocks the www. name, backs up the original hosts file first, and adds firewall rules that block the website's internet addresses.

Why does a blocked website still open?

Close all browser windows and open the browser again. Make sure the name you blocked is the one in the address bar: facebook.com and m.facebook.com are different names. Turn off Use secure DNS (DNS over HTTPS) in the browser, and block the website again if its addresses have changed. VPNs and proxy services can get around any website block.

Does the block work for all users of the computer?

Yes. Blocked websites stay blocked for every user, after you close Website Block and after you restart Windows.

Can my children unblock the websites?

Not easily. Protect Website Block with a password so nobody else can open it, and give the children a standard Windows account. Any administrator of the computer could undo the blocks by hand, so keep the administrator password to yourself.

How do I remove all blocks?

Choose Block > Unblock All Websites. This removes every block Website Block has made. Uninstalling Website Block also removes its blocks.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. The free 30-day evaluation version lets you try Website Block before you buy. A license is $29.95.
